Joe Herrera joins Altus with over 25 years of healthcare management and practice consulting experience. He has worked in a variety of healthcare environments including:
- Business Development for two national hospital companies
- Regional Business Development with a national clinical laboratory
o Development and implementation of a national clinical laboratory initiative in Mexico with over 500 physicians and two hospitals - Developer and Executive Director of one of the first Preferred Provider Arrangements in West Texas
o Secured financial incentives for participating physicians - Implementation of hospital system virtual private network involving over 1100 physicians supporting the delivery of coordinated care to patients served
- Implementation of hospital system clinical integration network strategy involving over 500 physicians
- Physician Services Director (claims processing) for two third-party payors
- Developed practice management department for two large CPA firms
- Director – Central Billing Office for hospital-owned large primary care physician organization consisting of over 25 physicians
Joe comes to Altus to develop and manage the Altus Physician Services Organization that will strengthen Altus HMS capability to assist our physician network to be better prepared for the impact of health reform, pay-for-performance, clinical integration and accountable care.
This assistance will primarily be achieved by providing comprehensive practice management products and services that will improve the physician ability to effectively demonstrate quality and value to commercial and self-insured. This assistance will also enable physicians to participate in accountable care arrangements, if they desire to do so, that requires the assumption of financial risk by the physician.
Joe attended the University of Texas – El Paso and has participated in several healthcare certification programs.
